Detective Division is commanded by a Lieutenant who is responsible for three symbiotic units; the Criminal Investigations Unit, the Narcotics/Vice Unit and the Juvenile/Community Policing Unit as well as supervising the Evidence custodian. The Detective Division, starting in 2019 to current year, is under the command of Lieutenant James Kelly. The division is comprised of one Detective Sergeant, six Detectives spread over the three units.

    BOC Icon Patrol Division

Patrol Division is the backbone of the Haverford Township Police Department. It is tasked with carrying out the basic functions of the police department. While every member of the department is sworn to protect life and property, prevent crime, and arrest violators of the law, it is the members of the patrol division that help to accomplish these goals through routine patrol of geographical areas, responding to emergency and non emergency calls for service, investigating traffic collisions, and the proper enforcement of all laws and ordinances in accordance with the rights and liberties guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as handling other requests for police services. The patrol division is on duty twenty four hours a day, seven days a week and is staffed by 2 Lieutenants, 8 Sergeants, 36 police officers and 4 police K9s.

A manpower distribution plan is used by the Department. The plan utilizes multiple districts along with overlapping sectors. This plan allows the officer assigned to a district to maximize their time in the assigned district. This is accomplished by assigning the sector officer to the back-up role rather than bringing another district officer out of his district to back a fellow district officer.

The plan allows the Department to keep the officers who patrol a district familiar with the people and issues occurring in that district. An Officer is generally assigned to the same district or sector for an extended period of time so they become familiar with the activity in the area. The approach fosters a better working relationship between the community and the officers that can lead to an ownership mentality around the unique issues in their area.

    BOC Icon Special Operations Unit

Special Operations Unit is responsible for many facets in the overall operation of the Police Department. The Unit is staffed by 1 Sergeant and 7 Officers and allows the Department flexibility in deploying officers of the unit for special events, conducting training or other administrative functions without depleting the resources of the regular patrol unit.

    BOC Icon Staff Services

Staff Services is the information center within the police department. The division is overseen by the Deputy Chief and comprised of two units, the Records Unit and the Information Assistant Office. The division has six civilian personnel.
