
Bureau of Fire

Overview:
The Bureau of Fire shall meet each month to discuss the development and implementation of plans, programs and policies necessary to ensure the adequacy of fire protection in the Township.
Membership of the Bureau of Fire includes the following:
- Chiefs of the five volunteer companies in the Township
- Chief of Police
- Township Manager
- Emergency Management Coordinator
- A member of the Board of Commissioners
- Director of Emergency Medical Services Administration

Civil Service Commission

Overview:
The Civil Service Commission is an oversight board created by the Board of Commissioners for the purpose of overseeing the hiring and promotion process within the Township Police Department services (as applicable) as required by the PA First Class Township Code. The Haverford Township Civil Service Commission has three (3) members. Each member is appointed by the Board of Commissioners for a term of six (6) years.

Environmental Advisory Committee

The Environmental Committee shall be a regular advisory board and, as such, it shall be only advisory in nature and shall perform no administrative duties. The duties of the Environmental Committee shall be to: (A) Work with the Township Manager and the Board of Commissioners and act as their advisory body on environmental affairs. (B) Where possible, initiate programs to improve the ecological balance and pollution standards of Haverford Township. (C) Make itself available to provide guidance and information on ecology and pollution problems for all residents of the Township. (D) Perform such functions as they relate to environmental concerns as may be requested by the Township Manager and/or the Board of Commissioners. Friends of the Grange

Overview:
The Friends of the Grange shall be composed of those interested citizens organized for the purposes of the preservation of and the promotion and sponsorship of meaningful cultural and environmental activities and uses of the Township-owned historical preserve, known as "the Grange," for the residents of Haverford Township and other interested persons. Health Advisory Board

Overview:
The Health Board shall be a regular advisory board and, as such, it shall be only advisory and shall perform no administrative duties. The duties of the Health Advisory Board shall be to: (A) Make recommendations and provide advice to the Director of Community Development and the Board of Commissioners pertaining to the protection and preservation of the public health of the citizens of Haverford Township. (B) Receive public health complaints of citizens and make recommendations to the Director of Community Development pursuant to them. (C) Make such reports pertaining to matters affecting public health as the Township Manager and/or Board of Commissioners may request. (D) Provide recommendations and advice to the Director of the Department of Code Enforcement in regard to those health regulations and practices deemed to relate to the function of the Department of Code Enforcement. Historical Commission
Meetings: 7:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month

Overview:
The responsibilities of the Historical Commission include recommending properties for classification or removal from the Township's Historic Resource Survey, working with property owners to discourage demotion and encourage preservation and renovation of properties in a manner that is compatible with the property's historic character in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's "Standards for Rehabilitation," and reviewing and advising the Township Zoning Officer and Board of Commissioners on permit applications for alterations, additions or construction that pertains to, or may impact, historic resources.

Human Relations Commission

Overview:
To ensure that all persons, regardless of race, color, religious creed, ancestry, age, sex, national origin, handicap disability, use or guide or support animals because of blindness, deafness or physical handicap of the user or because the user is a handler or trainer of support or guide animals, or because of a person's sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression enjoy the full benefits of citizenship and are afforded equal opportunities for employment, housing, commercial property, and use of public accommodations, it is necessary that appropriate legislation be enacted. Planning Commission

Overview:
The Haverford Township Planning Commission is a body of seven citizens appointed for four year terms by the Board of Commissioners, acting as an advisory group to the Board of Commissioners on issues and policies related to planning, land use regulation, and community development. The Planning Commission members work to develop plans and to implement policies that affect how our community plans for and manages changes in growth and development. The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the Board of Commissioners and the Zoning Hearing Board on a wide variety of planning and land development related proposals, including but not limited to proposed grant applications, rezoning, ordinance amendments, subdivisions, and land development. They also promote public interest in and an understanding of the Comprehensive Plan.

RHM Sewer Authority

Overview:
The function of the Radnor-Haverford-Marple Sewer Authority shall be to construct, improve, maintain, operate and finance sewer systems and sewage treatment facilities for the joint use of Radnor Township, Haverford Township and Marple Township, all of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and such other territories as may be authorized. The Radnor-Haverford-Marple Sewer Authority consists of six members, two appointed by Radnor Township, two appointed by Haverford Township and two appointed by Marple Township. The Haverford Township representatives are appointed by the Board of Commissioners of Haverford Township. Senior Citizens Advisory Council

Overview:
There shall hereby be created a Senior Citizen Advisory Council. The composition and duties of the Senior Citizen Advisory Council shall be as follows: The Advisory Council will serve to advise the Haverford Township Board of Commissioners on matters of policy that impact the senior citizen community in the township. The Council will gather input from the community on issues of concern to senior citizens. The Council will make periodic reports and recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. It is anticipated that the Advisory Council will hold public meetings at least once a year to gather the views of the community. Shade Tree Commission

Overview:
The Shade Tree Commission advises the Board of Commissioners and the Township Manager with respect to the preservation, maintenance and planting of shade trees in the Township. The Shade Tree Commission shall study the problems and determine the needs of the Township in connection with its tree-planting program.

Zoning Hearing Board

Overview:
The Zoning Hearing Board is a quasi-judicial body responsible for conducting hearings and issuing rulings from decisions of any Township officer charged with enforcing the Township Zoning Ordinance on request for special exceptions and variances.

General Residential Application Procedure
Applications are required to be submitted approximately 30 days in advance of the hearing. Seven packets of all associated documents are required and should include the following:
- Application signed and notarized by each owner listed on the deed
- Application fee of $550 (checks made out to Haverford Township)
- Acknowledgement form signed by all owners
- Copy of deed or agreement of sale
- Plot plan
- Any other relevant information to be provided to the Board (photos, petition, etc.)
